Security, the secure mail cage, and X-ray

Forbidden mail can be drugs, explosives, weapons, hazardous materials, or undeclared currency. It can enter on inbound trucks and at the counter, on letters and parcels. Business bulk does not carry forbidden mail.

Place an X-ray machine (build cost 450) so parcels and flats can be screened before sort. Detected contraband is seized. Missed drugs, weapons, or currency on street delivery call facility inspectors. Missed hazmat hurts satisfaction and mail quality. Undetected explosives can detonate. Facility inspectors are not hireable. They are dispatched for a bomb-threat evacuation, a detonation, a mail bomb, seized explosives or weapons, and those missed drugs, weapons, and currency incidents. See Staff and traits.

Operations, then Logistics, can enroll the X-ray on an equipment service plan. You pay a daily fee and the machine auto-repairs at day end.

Secure mail cage

Paint a Secure Mail Cage zone behind walls with a Secure Cage Door. Place Key Storage (350) inside and a Cage Window (420) on a cage wall.

Only clerks with accuracy of at least 0.96 may staff the window. Clerks sign for secure intake, cut and check seals, review addresses, and assign pieces to a carrier route. Each morning carriers stop at the Cage Window for keys and assigned secure packages, then return the keys and the receipts after the trip.

Secure mail still goes to carriers through the cage. The Secure Handling contract wants a finished cage with Key Storage and an X-ray. See Deals and contracts.
