Possessing staff
You can play as a staff member or drive a truck. The camera follows them. The pan keys walk or drive instead of scrolling the map. Everyone else keeps working. Saving releases control first.
Keys
Defaults. All four actions are remappable. An old save that still has take-control on F and interact on E is migrated to C and F.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| C | Take or release control. Click the person (or hover them) and press C, or use Take control on their inspect panel. The same key enters and leaves a truck after you release the person. |
| F | Staff action. Pick up and interact. Prefer whatever is under the cursor, then the nearest thing in reach. |
| Q | Put down what you are holding. |
| E | Package scan at manual sort. This is not the general pick-up key. |
| W A S D | Walk. On a truck, W and S are throttle and A and D steer. Arrow keys follow the same pan bindings. |
| Esc | Releases possession before it cancels the build menu. |
F, E, and Q do nothing useful while you are driving. They are staff keys.
What F picks up and what Q drops
F is the general action, in roughly this order: a maintenance haul, package-sort work (scan, toss into a route bin, unload a floor cage), pick up or load a container (tub, roll cage, tray rack, tray cart, route bin), work a station (sorting, package sorting, carrier case, service counter, passport, cage window), deliver to the dock or stage outbound, drop box mail, cage duty, and shell stacks. If you are already carrying, F can put the load down. A carrier can also start a delivery route when the staged mail is ready.
Q puts down a maintenance haul, a carried container or piece of mail, or a parcel you staged at a sort station (that parcel goes back to the station). If your hands are empty it stops the current job.
E is the dedicated package path: scan, and unload a cage when there is no queue.
Near a dock, a put-down stages outbound loads for the truck. Walking away ends the current station job.
Who you can possess
- Every staff role, including union bosses, janitors, maintenance, managers, and the postmaster.
- Not customers, the construction crew, city installers, or sidewalk pedestrians.
- Not someone already at home, walking out, on a street route, or away on a delivery trip. There is nothing on the floor to walk.
- Union bosses may handle mail, because they are still clerks or carriers. The postmaster and the managers may not. Possessing them flashes that they do not touch mail.
- There is no forklift to possess.
Trucks you can drive are the mail semi, the material semi, the postal truck, and the delivery van. Intersection rules still apply. See Traffic.
